              廣安市2024高考英語閱讀理解一輪系列訓(xùn)練(29)

              閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的A.B.C和D項中,選出最佳選項。

You love Jay Chou's songs and you can sing some quite well. So you make a video of your performance and post it online for your friends to see. But what if this led to something beyond your wildest imagination—a career in music?

Canadian teenager Justin Bieber, 16, has just had the magical experience: He posted homemade videos of his versions of songs by American singer Chris Brown online for his relatives. He received a phone call from Brown, telling him how much he liked his performance. His singing eventually earned him a fan base and a record contract. After releasing a popular EP (extended play密紋唱片) record in November 2009, his album My world 2.0 came out last Tuesday.

Bieber sings ballads and songs about puppy love. But is he just another gooey (甜膩的) teen idol? David Malitz, a columnist with the Washington Post, doesn't think so. “If we truly want the best for American children, let us pause and give thanks for Justin Bieber,” he writes. “After years of humdrum bubblegum (乏味的搖滾舞曲) from Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, the 16-year-old has thrown a candy-coated wrench (扭轉(zhuǎn)) into Disney's heartthrob (甜心) assembly line (生產(chǎn)線) by giving young fans something worth screaming their lungs out for: lovable pop songs.”

From a boy who grew up below the poverty line with his divorced mom to a star who caused near-riots (近乎失控) in shopping malls, even Bieber himself can't believe his overnight fame, although his kind of success is becoming more and more common in the Internet era.

Interested in hockey (冰球), the national sport of Canada, the boy once put up pictures of players on the walls of his bedroom. He dreamed of being a hockey star and used to practice signing his autograph (簽名). He doesn't need practice now. He signs autographs, if the girls can get close enough, as a music star.

1.What did Chris Brown think of Justin Bieber's singing?

              A.He didn't like it.

              B.He liked it very much.

              C.He didn't say anything.

              D.He supported Justin Bieber.

              B.Jay Chou.

              C.David Malitz.

              D.Miley Cyrus.

3.What can we learn from the fourth paragraph?

              A.He had a happy family.

B.His family was very poor once.

              C.His family was rich.

D.His family helped him a lot.

4.What's the best title of the passage?

閱讀理解(強烈抵制) from environmentalists and consumer groups is pressuring restaurants to stop serving dishes containing the shark fin.

gh Hong Kong. In 2008,around 10,000 tons of fins from 87 countries passed through the city's ports. For environmentalists like Stanley Shea of French-founded Bloom Associationlow activists have been quite effective. Over the last two years governments in Hong Kong and Chinese mainland,as well as big corporations and hotel chains, have announced they will take shark fin soup off their menus and banquets.

It is in Hong Kong's Sheung Wan District that a lot of the shark fin trade happens. Here the local marine-product industry is suffering. Inside the small shops merchants talk freely about shark fins they sell these days. But in front of a camera nobody wants to mention shark fins;it is just too sensitive, they say. Not far away,at restaurant Lin Heung Kui,shark fin soup is a common dish on the menu. Around lunchtime,it is mostly the elderly and tourists who visit the place.

Shark fin soup has been the food of the rich and wealthy for hundreds of years in China. But times are slowly changing, said Veranica Mak,an anthropologist(人類學(xué)家) at the Chinese University of Hong Kongible person. In the past, when you wanted to show your social status, people made shark fins a signifier in a banquet, but nowadays this signifier changes,”she said.

Stanley Shea said young people were increasingly interested in social responsibility. He said that helped make his campaign a success in Hong Kong.

Air pollution is a leading cause of cancer and classified among Group 1,or top, human carcinogens (致癌物質(zhì)), said the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is the World Health Organization's (WHO) cancer agency, on Oct 17,2024. The most widely used system for classifying carcinogens comes from the IARC, which places them into five groups. Group 1 carcinogens definitely cause cancer in humans. Group 2A is probably carcinogenic to humans, Group 2B is possibly carcinogenic, the carcinogenicity of Group 3 in humans is unclassifiable, and Group 4 is probably not carcinogenic to humans. Only a little more than 100 are classified as Group 1 cancer-causing substances, including ultraviolet radiation and tobacco smoke. “Our task was to evaluate the air everyone breathes rather than focus on specific air pollutants,” the lARC's Dana Loomis said in a statement. “The results from the reviewed studies point in the same direction: the risk of developing lung cancer is significantly increased in people exposed to air pollution.”

In 2010, lung cancer resulting from air pollution killed 223,000 people worldwide, and there was also convincing evidence that it increases the risk of bladder (膀腕) cancer, according to the IARC. Air pollution is already known to raise risks for a wide range of illnesses, including respiratory and heart diseases.

Air pollution is global, although the levels of it vary over space and time.

Loomis said people in Asia, eastern North America, some places in Central America and Mexico, as well as North Africa have relatively high exposure. Developing countries with large populations and booming manufacturing sectors, such as China, are particularly at risk.

Many cities in China, such as Beijing, frequently see smog. This week, Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang province, became the first Chinese city to officially suspend classes due to serious smog Many developed countries face similar problems, although to a lesser degree than most developing nations. In Europe, levels of many pollutants have fallen. But between 91 and 96 percent of Europeans living in cities are exposed to levels of PM2.5—tiny particles with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers—that are higher than the WHO safety limits, says a report published by the European Environment Agency on Oct 15.

Although both the composition and levels of air pollution can vary dramatically from one location to the other, the 1ARC said its conclusions apply to all regions of the world. “Given the scale of the exposure affecting people worldwide, this report should send a strong signal to the international community to take action without further delay,” said Christopher Wild, director of the IARC.

1、What might be the best title of the passage?

              A.Signals of air pollution

              B.Safety limits of air pollution

              C.Air pollution, cancer risk

              D.Air pollution, smog risk

What’s the main task of IARC?

              A.To focus on cancer-causing substances.

              B.To evaluate the air quality.

C.To study the developing risk of cancer.

D.To send signals to the international community.

Why should the international community take action without further delay?

A.The composition and levels of air pollution vary from place to place.

B.More and more people in developing countries are exposed to air pollution.

C.Developed countries face air pollution, the level of which is higher than the safety limits.

D.A large number of people worldwide are exposed to air pollution.

【2024模擬題】閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項。According to the US government, wind farms off the Pacific coast could produce 900 gigawatts of electricity every year. Unfortunately, the water there is far too deep for even the tallest windmills to touch bottom. An experiment under way off the coast of Norway, however, could help put them anywhere.

The project, called Hywind, is the world’s first large-scale deepwater wind turbine (渦輪發(fā)電機). Although it uses a fairly standard 152-ton, 2. 3-megawatt turbine, Hywind represents totally new technology. The turbine will be fixed 213 feet above the water on a floating spar, a technology Hywind’s creator, the Norwegian company StatoilHydro, has developed recently. The steel spar, which is filled with stones and goes 328 feet below the sea surface, will be tied to the ocean floor by three cables ; these will keep the spar stable and prevent the turbine from moving up and down in the waves. Hywind’s stability in the cold and rough sea would prove that even the deepest corners of the ocean are suitable for wind power. If all goes according to the plan, the turbine will start producing electricity six miles off the coast of southwestern Norway as early as September.

To produce electricity on a large scale, a commercial wind farm will have to use bigger turbines than Hywind does, but it’s difficult enough to balance such a large turbine so high on a floating spar in the middle of the ocean. To make that turbine heavier, the whole spar’s center of gravity must be moved much closer to the ocean’s surface. To do that, the company plans to design a new kind of wind turbine, one whose gearbox (變速箱) sits at sea level rather than behind the blades.

Hywind is a test run, but the benefits for perfecting floating wind-farm technology could be extremely large. Out at sea, the wind is often stronger and steadier than close to shore, where all existing offshore windmills are planted. Deep-sea farms are invisible from land, which helps overcome the windmill-as-eyesore objection. If the technology catches on, it will open up vast areas of the planet’s surface to one of the best low-carbon power sources available.

              1. The Hywind project uses totally new technology to ensure the stability of

              A. the cables which tie the spar to the ocean floor

              B. the spar which is floating in deep-sea water

              C. the blades driven by strong and steady sea wind

              D. the stones filled in the spar below the sea surface

              2. To balance a bigger turbine high on a floating spar, a new type of turbine is to be designed

              with its gearbox sitting

              A. on the sea floorB. on the spar top C. at sea level D. behind the blades

              3. Wide applications of deepwater wind power technology can

              A. solve the technical problems of deepwater windmills

              B. make financial profits by producing more turbines

              C. settle the arguments about environmental problems

              D. explore low-carbon power resources available at sea
