              One of renowned scientists, “father of elastic mechanics”-Qian Weichang, a CAS academician, president of Shanghai University, was born in WuXi, JiangSu Province in October, 1912.He graduated from the Physics Department of Tsinghua University in 1937 and got a doctorate in applied mathematics from the University of Toronto in 1942.He had been devoted to the study of elastic mechanics since 1940 and got great achievements.
