閱讀理解I just hope that our brains won’t crash(死機(jī)). Are you working on your typing skills to make you a more efficient worker? That may be all for nothing as Intel believes that we’ll be able to control our computers with our brains by 2024.
Intel and its research partners are studying how brain acts when it thinks. For example, scientists have found that people’s brains react in a similar manner when asked to think of a bear.
Through sensors(感應(yīng)器)that can find this sort of brain activity, Intel thinks that it will be able to read and translate this into an input system thanks to a chip in the brain.
“We’re trying to prove you can do interesting things with brain waves. ”Intel research scientist Dean Pomerleau told Computerworld. “Eventually people may be willing to be, more devoted to brain implants(植入物). Imagine being able to surf the Web with the Power of your thoughts. ”
Even if thinking about a bear isn’t enough to show that you want to copy and paste something. Intel still thinks that there’s a future in using your brain instead of the keyboard.
“If we can get to the point where you can accurately find specific words, you could mentally type, ”he added. “You could compose characters or words by thinking about letters flashing on the screen or typing whole words rather than their individual characters. ”
While this may all sound impractical for present time, Intel thinks that it’s possible and something we’ll all want.
“I think human beings are unusually adaptive(適應(yīng)的), ”said Andrew Chien, vice president of research and director of future technologies research at Intel Labs. “If you told people 20 years ago that they would be carrying computers all the time, they would have said, ‘I don’t want that. I don’t need that. ’Now you can’t get them to stop carrying devices. There are a lot of things that have to be done first but I think implanting chips into human brains is well within the scope of possibility. ”
Make good use of your favorite mouse and keyboard set-up before they’re old-fashioned.

This was spring. One day in spring four men were riding on horseback along a country road. These men were lawyers, and they were going to the next town to attend court.
There had been a rain, and the ground was very soft.Water was dripping__from the trees, and the grass was wet.
The four lawyers rode along, one behind another; for the pathway was narrow, and the mud on each side of it was deep. They rode slowly, and talked and laughed and was very happy.
As they were passing through a row of small trees, they heard a great flutter(拍動(dòng))over their heads and a weak cry in the grass by the roadside.
Some voice came from the green branches above them.
Some voice came from the wet grass.
The ground was wet. It's obvious that there had been a heavy wind and rain. And soon, one of the men,Speed, recognized that the sounds were from the robins(知更鳥).They came to the grass, and found there were two robins were in the grass. It was probable that the birds had been blown out of their nest by the storm. The birds were hurt and their mother was very worried about it.The birds were in danger!
Lincoln believed that something should be done to help the birds. But his companions did not think it important. They went away, but Lincoln stayed.
The three men, as they passed, looked down and saw the little birds fluttering in the cold, wet grass. They saw the mother robin flying about, and crying to her mate.
Then they rode on, talking and laughing as before. In a few minutes they had forgotten about the birds.
But the fourth lawyer, whose name was Abraham Lincoln, stopped. He got down from his horse and very gently took the little ones up in his big warm hands.
They did not seem frightened, but shouted softly, as if they knew they were safe.Mr.Lincoln wanted to put the little birds into their nest. Then he looked up to find the nest from which they had fallen. It was high, much higher than he could reach.
But Mr.Lincoln could climb. He had climbed many a tree when he was a boy.He put the birds softly, one by one, into their warm little home. Two other baby birds that had not fallen out were there. All joined together and were very happy.
Soon the three lawyers who had ridden ahead stopped at a spring to give their horses water. And soon they found Mr.Lincoln lost.
They were surprised to find that Abraham Lincoln was not with them. They waited by the spring.
In a few minutes Mr.Lincoln joined them. His shoes were covered with mud; he had torn his coat on the tree. When they saw Mr.Lincoln come, they asked him where he had been. After Mr.Lincoln told them he had helped the birds in need, the three lawyers were in surprise.
“Well,we always thought you were a hero,”said Mr.Speed.“Now we know it.”
Then all three of them laughed heartily. They thought it so foolish that a strong man should take so much trouble just for some worthless young birds.
“ Gentlemen,” said Mr.Lincoln, “I could not sleep tonight, if I had left those helpless little robins to die in the wet grass.”
Abraham Lincoln afterwards became very famous as a lawyer and statesman. He was elected president.Next to Washington he was the greatest American.

(2024·青島三診)Robots that can chat, find misplaced glasses, draw aeroplanes and play with your children are
attracting thousands of visitors during an expo in Tokyo as Japan adapts to changes in society.
Robots, such as the sound sensitive Chapit, answer simple questions and even joke with
people to help them fight loneliness and stay alert in old age.
Japan has one of the world's fastest-ageing societies and the government predicts that by 2050
the proportion of people over 65 will reach 40 percent.“Many older people in Japan live alone and have no one to talk to,” said Kazuya Kitamura representative of the expo organizer.“Communication robots accompany people and don't mind listening to the same stories over and over again.”
Matsumoto's Personal Mobility Robot, equipped with four cameras and a sensor to
recognize the user's centre of gravity, is designed to help elderly move around without pressing
buttons, using joysticks
(操縱桿)
or rotating wheels as in traditional wheelchairs.
The robot can also help find misplaced glasses by identifying them with a sensor.
Other robots, such as the award-winning “DiGRO” can support busy parents who have little time to play with their children. The robot can use the Internet to find a simple image and then draw pictures, keeping children company while parents work.
While Chapit, a relatively simple robot, managed to attract a corporate partner many
researchers, such as Kiyoshi Matsumoto, a professor at the University of Tokyo, struggle to attract sponsors for more expensive projects.
“We have developed a robot that can assist many people, but we still haven't found a sponsor,” said Matsumoto, who added that the cost of the machine, if mass-produced, would be comparable to that of a car. “In the current economic environment there are few companies willing to invest in such a costly project,”
he said.
1.It can be inferred from the text that ________.
