　　上述這些詞語都是單數，要用單數動詞，因此它們的人稱代詞應該是he/she，所有格形容詞則是his/her(he/his用于陽性和兩性都有的場合;she/her用于指陰性)。但許多以英語為母語的人感到這太麻煩，從而常常用they/their，即使只牽涉到一個性別也這么使用：

　　Neither of them remembered their instructions.

　　他們倆誰也沒記往自己得到的指示。

　　Would someone lend me their binoculars?

　　誰能借給我望遠鏡用一用?

　　Everyone has read the notice，havent they?

　　大家都看到通知了，是嗎?

　　No one objected，did tney?
