1. It is two years since I smoked.
誤：我抽煙已經兩年了。
正：我戒煙已經兩年了。
析：在 It is ＋時間段＋ since 從句中，若表示時間的 since 從句中的謂語動詞是持續性動詞，則這個時間段是從這個持續性動作結束時算起。如： It is ten years since she was here. 她不在這里已經十年了。
2. All of us are not for the plan.
誤：我們大家都不贊成這個計劃。
正：并非我們大家都贊成這個計劃。
析： all/both/everything 等用于否定結構時不表示全部否定，而表示部分否定。如： Not both of them are right. （并非他們兩人都是對的。）又如： She doesn't like everything here. （她并非喜歡這里的一切。）
3. We can't be too careful in doing such experiments.
誤：做這樣的實驗，我們不能太仔細。
正：做這樣的實驗，我們必須非常非常仔細。
析： can nottoo 句式表示無論怎樣也不過分、越越好。如： We can not estimate the value of modern science too much. （對于現代科學的價值，我們無論作怎樣的評價也不算過分。）
4. She isn't hungry a little.
誤：她一點也不餓。
正：她非常餓。
析： not a little 意為很、非常。 not a bit 和 not in the least 則意為一點也不。如： She isn't hungry a bit. （她一點也不餓。）
5. The man is too strong not to lift the box up.
誤：這個人力氣不夠大，不能把這只箱子提起來。
正：這個人力氣很大不會提不起這只箱子。
析： toonot to do 結構表示很不會不、非常必然會的意思。 tooto do 結構則表示太而不能的意思。試比較： Lin Dong is too wise not to work out the problem. （劉東很聰明，不會算不出這道題。） I am too tired to walk. （我太累了，走不動了。）
6. He isn't a farmer and a worker.
誤：他不是工人也不是農民。
正：他是工人不是農民。
析： not A and B 表示不是 A 而是 B 。 not A or B 表示不是 A 也不是 B 。比較： He isn't a farmer or a worker. （他不是個農民也不是個工人。）
7. She is no musician.
誤：她不是個音樂家。
正：她不懂音樂。
析：在 She is no musician 這樣的句子里， no 并不是否定某種職業或類屬，而是否定從句從事某種職業的人的素養或天份，即表示主語具有表語所表達的人或事物的相反的屬性。如： He is no scholar. （他不學無術。） He is no fool. （他很聰明。） He isn't a scholar. （他不是個學者。） He is not a fool. （他不是個笨人。）
8. Rose is no less diligent than her elder sister.
誤：羅斯跟她姐姐一樣都不用功。
正：羅斯跟她姐姐一樣用功。
析： no lessthan 表示同一樣。如： She is no less beautiful than her elder sister. 她跟她姐姐一樣漂亮。 no more than 可以表示與一樣都不的意思。如： Tom is no more careful than Bob. （湯姆不仔細，鮑勃也不仔細。）
9. I don't believe Miss Hong will be the last but two in the examination in her class.
誤：我不相信洪小姐將會在班里考倒數第三名。
正：我相信洪小姐將不會在班里考倒數第三名。
析： think， believe， suppose， expect 和 feel 都是表示信念、推測、愿望等心理活動的動詞。若要否定其后的賓語從句，則常將否定詞轉移到主句中去。如： I don't think you are right. （我認為你不對。）
10. Tell me what the matter is.
誤：告訴我怎么啦？
正：告訴我物質是什么？
析： What the matter is 表示物質是什么，而 what is the matter ？則表示怎么啦？。
