Easy Tiger!
Rob: Hello, Im Rob. And here comes Helen. Wow, shes changed her hair colour! Well, it looks very different. Hi Helen I like your hair.
Helen: Dont say a word!
Rob: Whoa!
Helen: I dont want to talk about it!
Rob: About what? The fact youve dyed your hair?
Helen: Enough!
Rob: Oh, OK, easy tiger!
Helen: I dont look like a tiger!
Rob: Well, I never said you did. Its just an expression. Though come to think of it, your hair is kind of stripy orange now, like a tiger!
(Helen starts sobbing)
Rob: OK, OK, you dont really look like a tiger. I said easy tiger! which is just a way of saying calm down.
Rob: No, no, you dont look like a jungle animal. Now listen to me. We say easy tiger when we want someone to calm down, to not get over-emotional, or not to rush into something.
Helen: Oh.
Rob: Thats right. Its usually used in informal situations, between friends. Here are some other examples.
Girl 1: Ive just met the perfect man hes tall, handsome, kind... Im going to marry him and have children well live together in a house by the sea, well -
Girl 2: Easy tiger! Do you even know his name?
Man: Right, this food is disgusting, were leaving the restaurant right now!
Woman: Easy tiger! I quite like it here. Lets wait until the main course comes.
Helen: I understand now. Maybe my hair isnt so bad after all.
Rob: No, just unusual. It doesnt make you look like a tiger... Id say more of an orangutan than a tiger...
Helen: What!
Rob: Orangutans are very handsome creatures; I mean, theyre kind of rich auburn-copper coloured.
Helen: How dare you!
Rob: Dont bare your teeth like that, its scary. Please
(Sound of real tiger growling!)
Rob: Easy tiger, easy!
(Tiger growling and huge roar).
